AWS EC2 – c5.xlarge Install Zimbra 8.8.15 Collaboration Suite on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS – Pre-requisites
To use this guide, you should:
Have Installed Ubuntu 18.04 server
Have ssh access to the user – user with sudo privileges
Have DNS server – Dnsmasq should be fine
The recommended system requirements for a Zimbra server which support up to 50 users are:

4 vCPU or more depending on your available resources
8 GB RAM or more
50 GB available disk space
DNS Server
Follow steps below to install and configure Zimbra Collaboration server on your Ubuntu 18.04 server.

Step 1: Install and Configure Dnsmasq
In this guide, we will be using dnsmasq as a DNS Server. Follow this guide How to Install and Configure Dnsmasq on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

Set Zimbra Domain, DNS server forwarder, and the MX records.

$ sudo nano /etc/dnsmasq.conf
server=8.8.8.8
listen-address=127.0.0.1
domain=phmailtrip.com # Define domain
mx-host=phmailtrip.com,mail.phmailtrip.com,0 # Set MX record for the domain, preference is 0
address=/mail.phmailtrip.com/18.140.194.199 # Send phmailtrip.com to 18.140.194.199

Set server hostname:
sudo hostnamectl set-hostname mail.phmailtrip.com

Add Server name and IP address to /etc/hosts file.
echo “18.140.194.199 mail.phmailtrip.com” | sudo tee -a /etc/hosts
Restart dnsmasq service and test.

sudo systemctl restart dnsmasq

If you will get a prompt stating something like “Port conflict detected: 53 (zimbra-dnscache)” with a prompt to hit ENTER to continue, you can just hit enter and let the installation/upgrade run out. Once everything is running, you will see that the Zimbra DnsCahe service is in a stopped state. To fix this error, all you have to do is

# zmcontrol status
# zmprov ms `zmhostname` -zimbraServiceEnabled dnscache
# zmprov ms `zmhostname` -zimbraServiceInstalled dnscache
# zmcontrol status
[[email protected]]$ zmcontrol status
Host mail.phmailtrip.com
amavis Running
antispam Running
antivirus Running
ldap Running
logger Running
mailbox Running
memcached Running
mta Running
opendkim Running

  1. JavaScript error encountered in method ZaAccountListController.prototype._newAccountListener

    This was solved with:

    /opt/zimbra/bin/zmzimletctl undeploy com_zimbra_delegatedadmin

    followed by a zimbra restart and cache clearing on the browser.

    Looks like there's an issue though, since we had been running a GA release without problem before. Hopefully this can be fixed so future GA releases don't bork for previous NE customers.
